NOVA SCOTIA THERAPEUTIC RECREATION ASSOCIATION
Therapeutic Recreation is a profession which recognizes leisure, recreation and play as integral components of quality of life. Service is provided to individuals who have physical, intellectual, social or emotional limitations which impact their ability to engage in meaningful leisure experiences.
Therapeutic Recreation at Nova Scotia Health Authority
Vision Statement: “Healthy Leisure, Healthy People” (NSHA Central Zone, 2016).
Mission Statement: “To be leaders in Therapeutic Recreation Practice” (NSHA Central Zone, 2016).
Values: “Choice, Collaboration, Commitment, Compassion, and Creativity” (NSHA Central Zone, 2016).
These goals were created for our Recreation Therapy Comprehensive Program Plan that includes the Eden philosophy.
Statement of Purpose:
Through comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Services enhance Elders well-being and quality of life by alleviating the effects of loneliness, boredom and helplessness.
Goal 1: To support a culture of growth and provide opportunities to maintain healthy leisure lifestyles.
Goal 2: To support a culture of trust through building relationships that respect identity, autonomy and security that address the unmet needs communicated by Elders.
Goal 3: To support a culture of connection and healthy communities.
Goal 4: To nurture environments that brings meaning, pleasure and joy.
